Is there a decent tried and true 775 motor out there that everyone recommends? I found the opposite is true of the motors though! There seems to be a ton of them. I have tried looking into gearboxes with metal gears, but I have come up short, other than the MLToys Phoenix gearbox for $147, that I am not entirely sure will work on my cars. Does anyone have any experience with this controller? Almost seems too good to be true for the price, though so did the $30 kit I originally had and it held up to a year of abuse. I found this speed controller that seems to have all the bells and whistles that the MLToys Speed/Brake Control, Brake Reduction and Lithium Soft Start Modules for $250, with the added bonus of being able to handle a wide range of voltages. Is this crazy, or have other people done similar? I really prefer the ease of being able to hot swap the batteries when they die so the boys can keep riding while the batteries charge. I had read that a 775 motor actually spins slower at a given voltage than the 550 motors, so I was thinking of putting two of the Dewalt 20v batteries in series for 36-40V and modulating the speed down with a suitable speed controller.
One of the cars has grinding gears, so I was thinking of upgrading to a 775 motor and metal gearbox while swapping out a new controller. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they worked for $30 and allowed me to modulate the speed until their skill levels picked up to be able to get the full 20v.įast forward to last weekend, and my 90lb nephew hopped on and ran it all the way up our hill, and by the time he got to the top, he cooked the motor controller, so much so that the wire insulation at the terminals melted together a bit.Īnyways, now I am looking for the next level upgrade. Thankfully, for my mod loving self, they both came with bad batteries, and out of the box, I upgraded them with a $30 dewalt battery/motor controller kit on Amazon. Hi guys, first post here! I have 2 HW cars that my twin 3 year olds love.
